Bloom's Taxonomy
Grades: All
What is Bloom's Taxonomy?
Bloom's Taxonomy is a classification and ordering of thinking skills and learning objectives. According to the Wikipedia article: "Bloom's Taxonomy divides educational objectives into three "domains": Cognitive, Affective, and Psychomotor (sometimes loosely described as knowing/head, feeling/heart and doing/hands respectively). Within the domains, learning at the higher levels is dependent on having attained prerequisite knowledge and skills at lower levels. A goal of Bloom's Taxonomy is to motivate educators to focus on all three domains, creating a more holistic form of education."
How does Bloom's Taxonomy relate to my use of technology in the classroom?
Bloom's Taxonomy helps us to understand how the different activities in which our students participate challenge their thinking in different ways. These vary from the lower order thinking skills (LOTS) of 'remembering' and 'understanding' to the higher order thinking skills (HOTS) of 'evaluating' and 'creating'. The various technology applications that we have been exploring through this month can also offer thinking challenges at different levels. The websites, charts and graphics linked below help us to see the alternatives available.
