What is Creative Commons?
"Creative Commons (CC) is a non-profit organization devoted to expanding the range of creative works available for others to share." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creative_Commons) Creative Commons licenses images, photos, clipart, videos, music and much more.

How do teachers and students use Creative Commons?
Anytime your students need to search for an image on the web, they should be using a Creative Commons Search. Why? Most of the images in the Google Image Library are NOT licensed for reuse, meaning, we do not have permission to use them. Images found through a Creative Commons Search ARE licensed for reuse, meaning, we do have permission to use them, provided we offer attribution (below).

What is attribution?
Attribution is giving credit to the owner of the image when you use someone else's image. Usually, this means that you should include the URL of the image with the image. Below is an example:

This practice reflects good Digital Citizenship - something we should be modelling and teaching in all of our classes. Whether your students are using Keynote, Word, ComicLife or writing on their blog, images they use should be found using this method.
